“I am blessed and volunteering at the CCC provides a means to share my blessings with others.”

Dermatologist Dr. Suzanne Hess started volunteering at the CCC in Feb 2024. After retiring in 2023, she missed the patient interaction she had enjoyed for 32 years.

“The field of dermatology enables you to see patients of all ages, and I have enjoyed seeing the spectrum from newborns to my 100+ year olds. It entails the treatment of skin, hair, and nail conditions, as well as the opportunity to do procedures, such as skin cancer surgeries, lesion removals, and biopsies. It is also a field which enabled me to have a lifestyle which included my family, church, and work.”

Upon completion of her residency at Wake Forest Baptist Health, she established Davie Dermatology, with a focus on providing excellent patient care. When she retired, confident that her patients were in excellent hands with the providers at Davie Dermatology, she enjoyed more family time with grandchildren, travel, and learning to play golf. But she missed the patient interaction.

“I still wanted to make a difference in those struggling with dermatologic conditions as a way of giving back to our community. I am blessed and volunteering at the CCC provides a means to share my blessings with others.

“Though I don’t speak Spanish, the amazing staff and Jennifer, the assistant who helps me at each clinic, have provided interpreter skills. The patients have been so receptive to my attempts at communication, but most of all, appreciative of a smile, a listening ear, and my presence. It is rewarding to see patients back for follow-ups and nurturing the relationships. The genuine ‘gracias’ is so gratifying!”
